Safest City
Mérida holds the title of safest city in Mexico year after year. Centro is walkable, clean, and genuinely calm. The fear was never yours — it was handed to you by headlines that never visited.
Money & Exchange
1 USD ≈ 16–17 MXN at street rate. ATMs are plentiful in Centro. Most boutique hotels accept USD and cards. Carry some pesos for markets, street food, and taxis.
When to Visit
November through March is peak season — warm days, cool evenings, low humidity. April through June builds heat. July through October is rainy season with afternoon showers and lush green streets.
Getting Around
Centro is walkable. InDrive and Uber operate in Mérida and are safe, metered alternatives to street taxis. For airport arrival, request a private driver through the concierge desk for a calmer first move.
The Cenote Ring
A ring of sacred Maya freshwater sinkholes surrounds Mérida within 30–90 minutes. Ik Kil, Dzibilchaltun, Cuzamá, Homún — each has its own character. Private guide routes are available through the concierge desk.
Progreso Beach
40 minutes north. A long, low-key gulf beach town with seafood restaurants, calm water, and a completely different rhythm from Centro. A perfect half-day or full-day extension.
